Create your own Triathlon!

Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and Runners at Peace Day Trail Race at Shambhala Mountain Center, July 2008.

Suggestions for Team Triathlons:

Pick three "sports"--running, biking, swimming, hiking or sitting (mediation)--and gather a small group to join you.                                                Add up the miles and hours to total 26 to create a "team triathlon."

Tiger - Team of 6

1 mile bike or run, 2 mile walk, 1 hour 20 min sit

(18 miles and 8 hours of meditation as a team)

Lion - Team of 4

3 mile bike or run, 2 mile walk, 1 hour 30 min sit

(20 miles and 6 hours of meditation as a team)

Garuda - Team of 3

5 mile bike or run, 2 mile walk, 1 hour 40 min sit

(21 miles and 5 hours of meditation as a team)

Dragon - Team of 2

9 mile bike or run, 2 mile walk, 2 hour sit

(22 miles and 4 hours of meditation as a team)

Ideas for Small Groups:

For Children

Contemplative walk on a weekend or morning of Midsummer's Day.

Local group of parent/child teams do walking meditation for one mile in silence.

For Teens

Local bikathon on a weekend or morning of Midsummer's Day.

Or team bikathon - organized any day, no need to be held as a single event

For Under 30s

Local hikathon or bikathon on any spring weekend.

Participants hike or bike in teams. Invite students from nearby college campuses.

For Any Age

Local nyinthun or day of meditation at a Shambhala Center.

Meditation instruction should be provided for 20 minutes before beginning.

Add your idea to the list!

The idea is to have fun and raise funds for education projects in Tibet.

Suggestions above can be modified to an event for any and all ages.
